Retirement Planning

This programme is focused on helping people to plan their move from full time paid employment.

You may wish to develop a “portfolio career” where you are working as a consultant, a Non-Exec or volunteering in the Charity sector. Indeed, planning your retirement can be the most exciting period of your ‘career’ where you can pursue options that you could not pursue whilst in full time employment. To date, our coaches have identified over 30 different new exciting roles for our soon-to-be retired clients.

Whatever you do will be your choice and our role is to help you to identify which of these choices will best fit your current and future needs.

We will provide you with the tools and techniques that help you to both adjust to this new working environment while also planning to maximise the motivation and satisfaction that you will achieve.

All of our programmes start with the process of building up your personal profile.

We do this using a number of questionnaires that look at your interests/passions, values, current abilities/skills and what you need to get out of work together with what tasks and environments you wish to avoid.

We also look at which of your skills and attributes are most transferable to new roles.

This information together with your work history and personal circumstances allows us to build up an objective picture of where you are today and what are the best opportunities for you to pursue.

This Career-Fit personal profile requires an investment of time and effort from you but it is the best way we have found to help you to really get to know yourself. It also allows us to look into the future and look at how you can develop to take on new opportunities that suit your future circumstances and market conditions.

We will work with you to develop the Future-You and look at various scenarios that your initial steps could lead towards and what opportunities future development can open up for you.

This is an important step as it allows you to justify the efforts and sacrifices that you are making to achieve your life goals and keeps you motivated, stimulated and fulfilled from your activities.

We can also provide you with ideas on how well your profile fits with particular roles and what development will be needed.

We will then provide you with links to training and development courses to further develop your skills to suit your desired opportunities.

If you decide to become a premiere Tbque member you will then have access to a Coach who will work with you to help you realise your potential and achieve your life goals.

You will be going through major changes as you exit from your employment. To identify the challenges and opportunities that you will be presented with, in addition to the personal profiling tools, additional well-being assessment’s allow us to identify what is really important for you to have and what to avoid.

Now that you are in charge of what you do we look at effectively building up the outline of what an ideal role or combination of roles should give you.

To do this we use our “Career-Fit Job Crafting” tools and techniques to identify activities that will provide you with motivation, satisfaction and fits with your values and life-goals. Some people do this exercise well before they actually retire and look to craft their existing role to gradually prepare them for retirement.

Some companies have structured pre-retirement programmes which concentrate on knowledge transfer so that all of your knowledge and experience isn’t lost when you retire.

This can be extended into retirement as you are retained on a coaching contract into the first period of your retirement.

Our coaches can work with companies on preparing individuals for retirement, so they pass on their knowledge and even support the company when they retire from their full-time role.

This is a win-win scenario as in addition to relieving many aspects of retirement anxiety you will feel valued and gain the satisfaction of seeing all of your knowledge and experienced being used while you are gradually moving into the next stage of your life. Your employer also has not only has continued access to a valuable, up to speed resource but has fast tracked the development of remaining employees.

As an example of this a number of our Coaches came into this role on retirement from Corporate roles but in nearly every case they had never imagined that their experience was transferable to such an opportunity.

We are also currently working with some people who will be transitioning from their Corporate roles over the next couple of years and are going through the training & development to become Coaches while they phase out of their existing roles.

Seniors are a great pool of knowledge, attributes and skills that can undertake many kinds of jobs. With the exception of extremely physically demanding occupations, almost any job can be undertaken by a person approaching their desired retirement. It really just depends on the individual, as we all age differently.

The best new roles for workers approaching retirement vary according to your goals, capabilities, health etc. For example, the interest for a financially secure single women over 50 may well be different from a man in their 70’s who has little saved retirement income

There are a wide range of potential jobs for seniors to match all kinds of different motivations and capabilities. Indeed, our coaches have identified many popular choices of direction for the soon to be retired seniors – for example, wanting to explore a favourite hobby or interest, be involved to a lesser degree in a prior career, want to be more social, help people, be involved in your community, be an entrepreneur, a consultant of your choice, a new position that is or is not physically demanding, a new position with earnings and benefits, a position that keeps you in a physically good condition etc.

So, retirement planning cannot start too soon as if done well it can make this the most stimulating and satisfying part of your life so far.
